DESCRIPTION:During the last City Council meeting\, the final voting of the city’s new solar ordinance occurred. This ordinance opens the door for safety and sustainability in Highland Park – allowing for solar solutions & more in the city. Beyond that\, it also allows for investments in the city to occur by way of grants & more – one of which is proposed at $2.5 million for new streetlights. When the vote came down\, it ended in a stalemate of 2 v 2 due to one council member being absent. \n\n\n\nWe need your help to pack the room at this next city council meeting to let our representatives know that we are in STRONG support of passing this ordinance and ACCEPTING these funds that would better Highland Park! Workshop for city council begins at 6PM\, the meeting begins at 7PM with opportunity for citizen comment (limited to 2 minutes). SUMMARY:Stop DTE's Rate Hike- MPSC In-Person Public Hearing
DESCRIPTION:DTE is getting ready to raise rates on residents AGAIN. They’ve done it MULTIPLE times over the past few years – let’s get together to stop them! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) is hosting an in-person hearing where residents can give public comment about DTE’s gas and electric rate hike. On Wednesday\, September 18th from 6-8 pm at Mumford High School\, 17525 Wyoming Ave.  \n\n\n\n\nTell DTE to STOP raising their rates! Share your public comment here.\n\n\n\n\nThis is a rare yet exciting opportunity for You to have your voice heard and for it to go on public record. DTE is asking for yet another rate hike to their gas and electric utility services as they’ve done year after year and this time they want a total of $722 Million\, a bill that residents like yourself will foot. We encourage and invite you to share your public comment and join us to voice why you believe DTE should not receive yet another rate increase.  \n\n\n\nAbout DTE’s rate hike: \n\n\n\nDTE 2024 Gas Rate Case (Case #U-21291) DTE seeks a rate hike to increase to gas rates of $266 M for safety and reliability investments and to compensate for reduced sales. DTE seeks an increase in their return on equity from 9.9% to 10.25%. It would cause a 9% increase in residential gas rates. A final decision from the Commission is likely to be made on the matter by December 2024. \n\n\n\nDTE 2024 Electric Rate Case (Case #U-21534) DTE seeks a $456.4 M electric rate increase and an additional ~$250 M in an Investment Recovery Mechanism primarily for electric distribution grid expenses. DTE seeks an increase in their return on equity from 9.9% to 10.25%. It would cause a 9.6% increase in residential electric rates. The Commission is reading the record of this case and is scheduled to issue a ruling on January 28th\, 2025. \n\n\n\nInvite your family\, friends\, and neighbors – we want to pack the house to stop the rate hike! Let’s stand in solidarity to stop DTE’s predatory practices.

The Just Transition framework from the Climate Justice Alliance offers a path forward—practices and principles for sustainable living without exploitation. Are you ready to join in liberating our soil and souls\, decolonizing our imaginations\, and embracing a new way forward? Let’s unite to stop the harmful\, build the new\, and change the rules. Transition is inevitable; justice requires our intentional efforts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis spring Soulardarity will host its first community-driven Just Transition Workshop on MAY 25\, 2024. We are inviting Detroit\, Hamtramck and Highland Park Residents interested in finding out how to actually own the tools and framework to dissolve and overcome these extractive practices and find real solutions that are local\, ecological\, and honoring of all people.
